A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
