Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A crowd of earlier generations 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
