A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
