A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
