When your Lord said to the angels: 'I am placing on the earth a caliph,' they replied: 'Will You put there who corrupts and sheds blood, when we exalt Your praises and sanctify You?' He said: 'I know what you do not know' 30 And He taught Adam all the names, then presented them to the angels; then He said: Tell me the names of those if you are right. 31 They said: hallowed be Thou! no knowledge is our save that which Thou hast taught us, verily Thou! Thou art the Knower, Wise. 32 He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed." 33 And when We said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever. 34 We said, "O Adam! live with your wife in Paradise and eat freely from it anywhere you may wish. Yet do not approach this tree lest you become wrongdoers." 35 But satan made them slip therefrom and caused them to depart from that in which they had been. 'Go down,' We said, 'be enemies to each other. The earth will provide your dwelling place an enjoyment for a while' 36 Then Adam received Words from his Lord, and his Lord relented towards him. He is the Receiver of Repentance, the Merciful. 37 We ordered them all to get out of the garden and told them that when Our guidance came to them, those who would follow it would have neither fear nor grief. 38 But those who would deny the Truth and reject Our revelations would be the companions of the Fire in which they would live forever. 39
