۞ The Reality (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)! 1 What is the Reality? 2 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry! 5 And as for A’ad, they were destroyed by a severe thundering windstorm. 6 To which He subjected them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that thou mightest have seen men during it lying prostrate, as though they were stumps of palms ruined. 7 So do you see any survivor among them? 8 And there was Pharaoh, too, and [many of] those who lived before him, and the cities that were overthrown - [all of them] indulged in sin upon sin 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 When the flood rose high and covered the whole land, We carried you in the Ark. 11 In order to make it a remembrance for you, and in order that the ears that store may remember. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 On that day, the inevitable event will take place 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 The angels will appear by its sides and, on that Day, eight [angels] will bear your Lord's throne above them. 17 On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand – he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." 20 So he shall have an agreeable life 21 in a lofty paradise, 22 its fruits are near. 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 And as for him who is given his book in his left hand he shall say: O would that my book had never been given me: 25 And I had not known what my account was: 26 Would that it (my death) had ended it all! 27 Our wealth is of no benefit to us 28 and my authority has been destroyed' 29 [Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him. 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 And string him to a chain seventy cubits long. 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 “And did not urge to feed the needy.” 34 Today he has been left here friendless; 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 that none but sinners eat' 37
