۞ The Indubitable! 1 What is the sure calamity! 2 And what could make thee conceive what that laying-bare of the truth will be? 3 Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. 4 Then the Thamud were destroyed by an awesome upheaval; 5 And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind 6 He forced it upon them with strength, consecutively for seven nights and eight days – so you would see those people overthrown in it, like trunks of date palms fallen down. 7 Beholdest thou any of them remaining? 8 Pharaoh and those before him and the people of the overturned habitations all engaged in the same great sin. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 So that We may make it a reminder to you, and that the retaining ear might retain it. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound a single blast. 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 On that day all your secrets will be exposed. 18 So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! 19 Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.' 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 In high empyrean 22 The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand. 23 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 How I wish my death had ended all. 27 My wealth has not helped me a thing 28 [and] all my power of argument has died away from me!" 29 Lay hold of him and chain him; 30 Then in the Scorch roast him 31 Fasten a chain to them - seventy cubits long - 32 “Indeed he refused to accept faith in Allah, the Greatest.” 33 Nor urged others to feed the poor. 34 Today he shall have no loyal friend here, 35 nor any food except foul pus 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
