Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the concrete reality? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity. 4 As for Thamood, they were destroyed by the Screamer; 5 The Ads were destroyed by a swift, destructive gale 6 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's apostle, so He laid hold of them with a grip increasing. 10 [And] behold: when the waters [of Noah's flood] burst beyond all limits, it was We who caused you to be borne [to safety] in that floating ark, 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 The angels will stand on all its sides. And on that Day, eight (of them) will carry the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 On that day all your secrets will be exposed. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Verily I was sure that I would be handed over my account.” 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 in an exalted garden 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of what you did in days long passed' 24 But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record 25 "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! 26 I wish death had put an end to me. 27 My wealth has not availed me, 28 [and] all my power of argument has died away from me!" 29 (It will be said): Take him and fetter him 30 then cast him in the Fire, 31 then in a chain of seventy cubits' length insert him! 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 and he never urged the feeding of the needy; 34 Therefore he has not here today a true friend, 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 None will eat it except the sinners. 37
