Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 which He willed against them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that in the end thou couldst see those people laid low [in death,] as though they were so many [uprooted] trunks of hollow palm trees: 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 Pharaoh and those before him and the people of the overturned habitations all engaged in the same great sin. 9 They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand – he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 In high empyrean 22 the clusters of whose fruit will be hanging low to be within reach (of the inmates of Paradise). 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record 25 And knew not what my reckoning! 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 My wealth has availed me nothing: 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 (A command will be issued): “Seize him and shackle him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. 34 Today he has been left here friendless; 35 and the only food he has is filth 36 which no one will eat except the sinners. 37
