Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the sure calamity! 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 Then as to Samood, they were destroyed by an excessively severe punishment. 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 7 Do you see any remnants of them? 8 The Pharaoh, those who lived before him and the people of the Subverted Cities all persisted in doing evil. 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. 10 And when the waters rose (high) We carried you in the sailing (Ark), 11 That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 and the sky will be rent asunder - for, frail will it have become on that Day; 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 His shall be a pleasing life 21 in a lofty Garden 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 "Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!" 24 But, he who is given his book in his left hand will say: 'Woe to me, would that my book had not been given to me! 25 And not known my account! 26 "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)! 27 My wealth hath not availed me, 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 Then, in a chain whereof the length is seventy Cubits, bind him. 32 Verily he was wont not to believe in Allah, the Mighty. 33 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 “Nor any food except the pus discharged from the people of hell.” 36 Which none but the hellish eat." 37
