Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the concrete reality? 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity! 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 To which He subjected them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that thou mightest have seen men during it lying prostrate, as though they were stumps of palms ruined. 7 Do you see any remnants of them? 8 And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. 9 and rebelled against their Sustainer's apostles: and so He took them to task with a punishing grasp exceedingly severe! 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 When the single blast is sounded on the trumpet, 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 And the angels shall be on the borders thereof; and on that Day eight shall bear over them the Throne of thy Lord. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book! 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. 21 in a lofty Garden 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 And whoever is given his book in his left hand – he will say, “Alas, if only my account were not given to me!” 25 And I had not known what my account was: 26 O would that it had made an end (of me): 27 Our wealth is of no benefit to us 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 (A command will be issued): “Seize him and shackle him, 30 Then in the Scorch roast him 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food save the filth 36 None will eat it except the sinners. 37
