The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
