The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
