The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Eager to roast; 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
