The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
