The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
