The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
