The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
