The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
