The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who pray, 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
