The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Save worshippers. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
