The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
