The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
