The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 save those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
