The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those that pray 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Are free of blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
