The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
