The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
