The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
