The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
