The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
