The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 except those that pray, 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
