The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
