The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
