The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
