The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 tearing away his skin! 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 save those that pray 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
