The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Are free of blame, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
