The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray, 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
