The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Eager to roast; 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those that pray 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
