The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
