The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
