The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
