The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it very near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Save worshippers. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 and guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
