The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Eager to roast; 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
