The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
