The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
