The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 But not so the worshippers 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
