The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
