The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Save worshippers. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
