The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
