The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 and guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
